Imagine riding on deserted beaches, through dense forests, up and down the Serra do Mar and visiting waterfalls. This is possible with Caminhos Mata Atlântica!

In partnership with the Desempenho Riding School, it offers short, medium and long rides from the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro to the coast of Cabo Frio and Búzios, where it has a branch at Pousada Fazendinha.

The region is still home to important fragments of the Atlantic Forest. The highest levels of biodiversity in the entire state of Rio de Janeiro have been found in this stretch of the Serra do Mar. Large mammals such as the muriqui and the jaguar still survive here. Cachoeiras de Macacu is also very attractive to birdwatchers. The Wikiaves website lists 425 species of birds.

The highest point is Pico de Caledonia (2257 m) on the border with Nova Friburgo. From the top you have one of the most beautiful views of the mountains and other nearby towns, and you can even see Guanabara Bay and part of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Caminhos Mata Atlântica offers the following long-distance horseback rides

Darwin’s Trail, which passes through dense forests, rural roads and visits beautiful waterfalls in Cachoeiras de Macacu,
Serra-Mar Horseback Ride, which cuts through mountains, fields and farms in three municipalities until it reaches the beaches of Búzios.

All the routes are mapped and safe, have a support car and cover trails, dirt tracks and deserted beaches. Overnight accommodations are chosen with the comfort of riders and horses in mind. The horses are Mangalarga Marchadores and Paso Peruanos, all of which are comfortable, reliable and well-trained on the trails. The instructors and guides are experienced and knowledgeable about the terrain.

Important:

For beginner riders, it’s essential to start with the Horseback Riding Clinic and the short one- or two-hour trails.
You need to be physically fit enough to ride for 5 to 6 hours over several days.
For the welfare of the horse, there are weight limits for the rider.
